Ecuador has long been valued for its extraordinary geography. It is the first country to enact the Right of Nature in its constitution, and it has been designated as one of the world’s seventeen “megadiverse countries.” With a landscape that includes the famous Galapagos Islands, Amazon jungle, Andean highlands, and the Pacific Coast, Ecuador has more animals and plants per square kilometer than any other country.
PUERTO CAYO, MANABI
Oceanside Farms is situated in Puerto Cayo, a small coastal town characterized by its artisanal fisherman culture, surrounding cloud forest habitat, and the constant lull of waves. We chose Puerto Cayo for its peaceful, mostly secluded environment. A 45-minute drive from the city of Manta, Puerto Cayo has abundant space to practice sustainable farming and residential development on a meaningful yet still manageable scale. We also share our habitat with an incredible variety of wildlife — humpback whales migrate within viewing range along the Pacific Coast and Isla De La Plata, the Island of Silver commonly called The Little Galapagos, sits just off our coast.
Ecuador’s cultures are as distinct as the different zones of the country itself. Nowhere else in the world is there a single country that offers its visitors the chance in such a short distance to span between the experience and styles of colonial European, ancient indigenous and coastal cultures. Beyond the gift of the land’s natural bioscape, Ecuador offers our residents a span of experiences such as taking in a symphony performance in the country’s capital, visiting the Tsachila Shamans of Santo Domingo or listening to the Marimba of the Esmeraldena culture.
Enjoy an abundance of fresh food and heritage cuisine, from the land and from the ocean, just outside your door. Sit and relax at one of the local restaurants or if you prefer, relax in the comfort of your home with a private chef and fresh seafood delivered to your door only moments after it arrives on the beach.
Bordering the Machalilla National Park, our location in Puerto Cayo places some of Ecuador’s most pristine marine environments in our residents’ backyard. Locally, OSFR provides residents with private beach access and our beach clubhouse across the street. Oceanside Farms is additionally located only minutes from the “Los Frailes” National Park Beach, voted consistently as the most beautiful beach in Ecuador. While similar to the California Coastal landscape, our seemingly neverending stretch of beach is made unique with its cool micro-climate and the cloud forest backing it.
Ecuador as a country is considered a land of adventure. Each of the country’s different environments presents its own unique experiences. From the vast jungles of the Amazon to snow covered peaks in the Andes, our residents find themselves with a list of experiences sufficient to fulfill a lifetime. The Galapagos Islands remain one of the most coveted experiences for our residents and with flights leaving from the mainland daily, a 3hr plane trip can have you standing amidst Darwin’s finches.
